About

Charlie Quimby

My writing career has spanned plays, novels, opinion and arts criticism for newspapers, corporate communications, speechwriting, public policy think tanks, and social media—some of it award-winning, much of it lucrative, and all of it destined to be lost in time. I've served on arts, sports, community, and professional boards, public commissions, political and fundraising campaigns, reunion committees, tutoring programs, and as a neighborhood organizer and HOA president.

My novels earned starred reviews from Publishers Weekly and Booklist. Monument Road was also honored as a selection for the independent booksellers Indie Next List. My nonfiction and marketing work has won scores of professional awards and as well as from Harvard Business Review and Financial World. I was the lead writer of Planning to Stay: Learning to See the Physical Features of Your Neighborhood.

These days I bring an introspective literary style to my work as an democracy activist and as a volunteer in the trenches of community organizations. In my non-political work, I've connected with people as a preschool aide, shower attendant, discussion leader, bike mechanic, front door greeter, and street barber. I am not now, and have never been, a social worker, therapist, urban anthropologist, or white savior.

Social isolation within communities continues to be my primary subject. I write about it on my free Substack newsletter, Small Ponds and post about housing and related matters on BlueSky.
